Five persons, four of whom were soldiers including a Forward Operations Base (FOB) commander, Major IU Mairiga(pictured), have been killed in Borno State.
The deceased among whom was a hunter were murdered by Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday at Mayanti, in Bama Local Government Area of the state.
Their killers ambushed them at a military base in the night, with Major Mairiga said to have put up a fierce resistance against the insurgents.
The deceased unit commander, according to report had no enough support from some of his men who allegedly took flight and sought refuge in the bush instead of fighting back.
“The unit commander gave the terrorists a good fight, but he was overwhelmed after some soldiers fled.
“He died a brave soldier and neutralised many of them before he was overpowered,” sources told newsmen.
