Renowned Islamic cleric, Sheik Abubakar Gumi, said bandits of Fulani extraction are carrying out their nefarious activities with the connivance of some military men and many others.
Gumi had visited the bandits in Zamfara forests. He then called on the federal government to grant them amnesty like the Niger-Delta militants, a call that triggered outrage.
The cleric’s disclosure of a secret trade pact between some bad elements in the public was contained in an interview he granted newsmen saying, “They have collaborators everywhere – in the armed forces, everywhere. One of them said, ‘Even this cattle rustling, we don’t have trailers to transport cattle to where they are slaughtered. We don’t have an abattoir.’ So, there are people who are (collaborating with them). Even the kidnapping of the people, they said, ‘We don’t know these people; it is the people in town that will tell us a certain person has money.”
