The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has adopted the children of late Ifeanyi Okereke, victim of a trigger happy operative of the Department of State Security Service, DSS, Abdullahi Hassan, attached to him.
Late Okereke, a vendor was killed last Thursday at Federal Secretariat area in Abuja by a bullet fired by Hassan in the convoy of Gbajabiamila sparking public outrage including his colleague vendors staging a protest to demand for justice.
The deceased vendor is survived by his widow and two children.
The Speaker on Sunday at a newspapers distribution centre in Garki area, said he met with the family of the late 36-year-old in Madalla/Suleja area of Niger State where he announced an endowment fund for them and his adoption of the two children while they would enjoy scholarships till age 21.
“I have made commitments to the family because his children have now become my children. I have made commitments to the family to take care of the children until they reach adulthood. I have immediately instructed the lawyers in the office to immediately set up a trust for the education and welfare for the children until they turn 21,” he said.
