A fake phone seller on Monday earned the wrath of an aggrieved customer who bought a blackberry phone from him but later discovered she was only sold a phone case as the inside was filled with stone.

The incident happened at Westminster Market, along Apapa- Oshodi expressway, Olodi -Apapa area of Lagos State.

The phone seller simply identified as Ifeanyi and members of his syndicate were said to have sold a fairly-used blackberry to the girl identified as Nkechi at the rate of N15,000.

She explained that the sellers tested the phone in her presence and it worked very well and the seller instructed her to charge the battery for at least four hours before usage, to prolong the battery’s life span.

Nkechi said in the process of making payment for the phone, one of the members of the seller’s syndicate swapped the one that had been tested with a dud one.

The girl narrated that she attempted to charge the phone as soon as she got to her residence in Alakoto area of Olodi-Apapa and was shocked when the phone did not show any light and she opened it to check the battery and saw stones smartly packed inside the phone.

She further stated that when she discovered that she had been defrauded, she quickly returned to the spot where she bought the fake phone and was fortunate to sight Ifeanyi close to the warehouse bus stop.

Nkechi said Ifeanyi recognised her on sight and attempted to escape but she shouted and grabbed his shirt, which drew the attention of passersby.

A witness, Ikenna said Nkechi bit Ifeanyi’s finger when he attempted to forcefully loosen her grip on his shirt.

He also confirmed that Ifeanyi is a member of a syndicate that defrauds people through sales of fake items at the Westminster market.

Ikenna said people intervened and rushed Ifeanyi to a nearby hospital, while some youths who sympathised with the girl assisted her to escape from the scene.
