Osun state governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been asked to resign over N13.7 billion fraud allegation bordering on the state payroll.
A forensic audit firm awarded contract to audit and validate the state’s payroll by the government in 2023 is accusing the authorities of deliberate payment of N13.7bn to 8,452 ghost workers annually.
It also threw accusation of failure to implement its recommendations nor payment of the agreed professional fees to the company at the government.
Speaking against this backdrop, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Surulere Constituency II of Lagos, Hon. Quassim Shittu, on Saturday at a press conference in the state demanded Osun governor’s resignation and urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the matter.
“What we have been reading in the news about the Osun State Government under Ademola Adeleke is disturbing. If these allegations are true, the governor ought to have resigned by now,” Shittu told newsmen.
In response to the payroll fraud allegation, the Osun State Government in a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi disputed it, framing the report as faulty and potentially fraudulent.
It said the figures presented by the audit firm were inflated, which prompted a re-verification exercise that revealed significant discrepancies.
