The Ogun State government has ordered all public schools, and market places in the Remo area of the state be to be closed on Wednesday for the burial of matriarch of Awolowo dynasty, Chief (Mrs) HID Awolowo.
This was contained in a statement released on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa.
The statement reads in part: “Government, hereby, appeals to market men and women as well as residents of the state to troop out en-masse to give Chief (Mrs) Awolowo a befitting burial,” it said.
In a related development the state government named a model school in Ikenne-Remo after the deceased on Monday.
Senator Ibikunle Amosun, at a ceremony organised in her honour tagged: ‘Ogun Celebrates HID Awolowo,’ held at the Sagamu International Stadium explained that the naming of the one of the 28 model schools built by his administration was the best way to remember the contributions of Chief and Chief (Mrs) Awolowo towards provision of qualitative education in the days of Papa Awolowo as the premier of the defunct Western Region.
