The Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area, Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu, has unveiled a 70-member team to take the council’s projects, programmes and achievements to residents across the LCDA.
The group, known as the “70 ManTeam Olugbani Agenda,” was inaugurated on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the council’s conference hall.
The team, made up of selected political appointees, is expected to use social media, community platforms and grassroots networks to increase awareness of the administration’s activities.
Saliu told members that one of the major reasons for setting up the team was the need to address what he described as misinformation and poor publicity surrounding projects executed by his administration.
He cited the Makanjuola Street road project in Sari as an example, saying the road, which is less than one kilometre long, had been completed despite claims in some quarters that the project was not executed.
According to him, better communication would enable residents to know what the council was doing and distinguish verified information from claims circulating in the community.
The chairman urged members of the team to actively share official information released by the council’s Chief Press Secretary through their personal social media platforms and other available channels.
Saliu listed Amusu Street in Badia and Akinola Street in Sari, among other roads, as projects completed under his administration.
He also disclosed that the council had secured 13.5 plots of land for a secondary school, but said work on the project had been delayed by the evacuation of a large refuse dump on the site.
The chairman further announced plans to construct Mosadolorun Street in Oke-Oja, saying the project would help address flooding and other challenges confronting residents of the area.
He added that part of the area would be developed into a seaside relaxation facility, noting that funds had been set aside for the road project.
On education, Saliu said the council would distribute school uniforms to pupils in public primary schools from Primary One to Six.
He explained that the exercise had been delayed by the process of inscribing “Gain of Subsidy Removal” on the uniforms.
The administration also plans to distribute school bags containing notebooks, biros, pencils, sharpeners and erasers to pupils and students in public primary and secondary schools.
Saliu charged the 70-man team to ensure that residents were adequately informed about the initiatives.
On youth empowerment, the chairman said his administration was working to engage youths from Apapa-Iganmu in revenue collection activities previously handled by people from outside the area.
He also promised that the interests of elderly residents would receive attention.
Saliu invited qualified contractors with the required procurement licences to indicate interest in council projects, stressing that all contracts would be handled in accordance with due process.
He urged members of the team to build effective ward structures, accommodate new members and assign responsibilities to those willing to participate actively.
The chairman also warned members to be vigilant against what he described as “Judas” within the political structure.
He reiterated that his administration operates an open-door policy, saying residents and stakeholders could approach the Secretary to the Local Government, Chief of Staff and supervisors whenever he was unavailable.
Earlier, the coordinator of the group, Hon. Emmanuel Dede, said the 70 ManTeam Olugbani Agenda was established to improve communication between the council administration and residents.
Dede said the group would publicise government programmes, projects, achievements, events and opportunities through social media and other communication channels.
He added that the team would take its activities beyond the internet, reaching residents directly through streets, communities and wards across Apapa-Iganmu.
The event ended with the unveiling and presentation of the group’s branded T-shirts and banner to Chairman Saliu.
Among those present were the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim Olanrewaju; Chief of Staff, Hon. Olanrewaju Fatai; Chairman of the Elders Council, Alhaji Bakare Olanrewaju; the chairman’s wife, Alhaja Kikelomo Layeni-Jimoh; Alhaji Onikepe and other stakeholders.
