Security operatives have reportedly arrested a commercial vehicle driver and another person who answered a call to the phone of abducted Kogi State councillor, Hon. Rosemary Adukwu, following her death in captivity.

The two suspects were said to be assisting investigators after the councillor, who represented Ogugu Ward III in Olamaboro Local Government Area, died days after she was seized by suspected kidnappers.

Hon. Rosemary Adukwu was abducted on September 30, 2026, while travelling to Onitsha market in Anambra State to restock her business.

The assailants reportedly intercepted the commercial vehicle she boarded around Oji River, between Enugu and Anambra states, dragged her out and took her to an undisclosed location, leaving the other passengers unharmed.

Her family reportedly became suspicious after the abductors failed to contact them for ransom for almost a week.

According to a family source, relatives subsequently sought the assistance of security operatives to track her mobile phone.

Their efforts allegedly ended in tragedy when someone who answered a call to the councillor’s number disclosed that she was dead.

The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, while the arrests have raised questions about what happened during the ill-fated journey and the period she spent in captivity.

The family had also questioned why the kidnappers allegedly singled out Adukwu and left the other passengers untouched.

The Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Dr. Ameh Williams, announced her death on Friday, saying it was confirmed on Thursday while she was still in captivity.

The President-General of Ogugu District Union, Deacon Samuel Ige Agada, also condemned the incident, describing the death as a painful loss to the community.

Adukwu was buried at her family compound in Ogugu Centre on Friday.

As of the latest reports, police had yet to publicly clarify the circumstances of the abduction and death or disclose whether the two arrested persons would face charges.
