Singer cum activist, Charles Oputa, better known as Charly Boy has revealed the trouble he went through before wedding his wife of forty years, Lady Diane, in the church.

The father-of- nine with two ill-fated marriages wedded Diane in the church this month after four decades of cohabitation that produced two children.

The delay in having the church imprimatur on the couple’s marriage until recently, according to him, was borne out his first marriage, which despite long collapse remained an albatross until he got help from the trio of Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Mathew Kukah, former President of the Christian Association, John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan, and Rev. Fr Bolongo.

“We never married in church and because my first marriage was in the church and I didn’t know that it takes a long process to get an annulment, especially in the Catholic Church. You have to go through different processes even to the Pope.

“This was why you saw that the Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan; Bishop Matthew Kukah and Rev. Fr Bolongo were there officiating at the wedding ceremony. These three clergy men were responsible for pushing that annulment for me. The process took almost five or six years,” the 67-year-old told New Telegraph.
