A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Buba Galadima, has risen in defence of late Head of State, Sani Abacha who is under perennial attack for pillaging loads of the country’s money and stashed them away in foreign accounts.
Galadima was the Director General, National Maritime Authority in Abacha administration while President Muhammadu Buhari whom he was closed with until politics put them asunder ahead of 2019 general election held sway as the Chairman of Petroleum Trust Fund in the infamous military junta.
The belligerent politician in an interview with The Nation pooh-poohed at widely held claim that Abacha mightily looted the treasury while in the saddle.
Instead, the trained engineer said the late dictator heeded advice to save money for the country in anticipation of United States sanctioning Nigeria due to his overthrowal of Ernest Shonekan led-interim government.
“Saddam Hussein was one of them. Muammar Gaddafi was one of them. They adviced him that there was the likelihood that the US could sanction Nigeria and as such he should save money outside that could last the country, at least, six months, even Nigeria’s account was blocked by the US, there won’t be panic.
“I was a key figure in that government. I was one of the so-called Abacha boys if you must know. I was the Director General, National Maritime Authority, whereby export and import to Nigeria, including crude, were directly coming under my desk.
“So, am in position to talk about Abacha and the so-called loot,” he told the paper.
