Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has related the path he will follow to ensure embattled Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Hudu Yunusa-Ari faces consequences of his impropriety.

Yunusa-Ari, outside the mandate of his office, declared the All Progressives Congress candidate, Aisha Dahiru Ahmed Binani as winner in the middle of the result collations.

The REC’s action, a violation of section 120(4) of the Electoral Act, 2022 made him a candidate for 36 months’ imprisonment.

The police authorities have launched investigation into the matter, with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, replacing Commissioner of Police on election duty in the state, Mohammed Barde.

Barde’s counterpart in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has equally been recalled with the view to determine whether he is complicit in the announcement by way of providing Yunusa-Ari with security in the course of carrying out the act he was reported to have been commissioned by Binani to undertake.

Fintiri while speaking with newsmen after receiving the certificate of return alongside his deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, said he would see to it that the disgraced REC spend time in jail.

His actual word, “The REC from the beginning has been manipulating the election to give it to the APC but unfortunately because of the quantum of voting, he became confused and had to declare the election inconclusive believing that if he is given the second opportunity, he will be able to manipulate but God did not allow him.

“We won the inconclusive election again squarely and he had to do what he did disgracefully. I think INEC has taken steps and they are going to prosecute him but I think the right place to prosecute him is in Adamawa because he committed the offence in my land and I am going to instruct the Ministry of Justice to ensure that he is prosecuted and taken to jail.”
