The love of Gulder, a brand of alcoholic drink, was used as bait to arrest a member of a three-man syndicate, impersonating First Lady, Aisha Buhari, Uche Anyanwu Julius, to swindle unsuspecting white men, a Federal High Court, Lagos heard on Tuesday.

Uche, and his partners in the crime, Kenneth Chikwado Ezeonu and Agu Ifeanyi, were arrested while enjoying sumptuous food and drinks, a police detective, Mr. Musa Naneri, a Superintendent of Police, said while giving evidence before Justice Nicholas Oweibo.

In glee, Musa told of how Uche’s love for Gulder gave him up: “after conclusion of our investigation and he had opened up on the fraud we are able to detect the location of Uche. We moved down to the place and he was called to join us at a joint for ‘item seven’, because he has love for Gulder and when he showed up, we arrested him.

“He made confessional statement that he was into financial fraud. He stated in his statement how he defrauded white men whom he called ‘Mugu”.

Uche, Kenneth and Agu who also goes by the name of Musa Muhammad; Abdul Karim and Dr. Lima Norman respectively are standing trial before the court on a 17 count-charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, cybercrime and alleged fraud of $34. 325, 500 million fraud.

The case was adjourned by Justice Oweibo until March 31 for continuation of trial.
