Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, said he sited the Federal University of Transportation in Daura, President Muhammadu Buhari’s country home, at the risk of being tagged, a sycophant.

The siting of the university in the president’s home town is expected to trigger outrage and viewed as inequity in some quarters while Amaechi would not be spared of allegation of currying favour with the presidency.

The minister, however said he was unperturbed about the danger of being in the firing line in his welcome address at the foundation laying ceremony of the $50m transportation university with Buhari in attendance.

“When we sited the wagon factory at Kajola, there was no noise. If by citing this university in Daura, people will call me a sycophant, I would not mind being called a sycophant.

“Is Daura not in Nigeria? Daura is not in Chad or in Mali. Daura is in Nigeria. What is wrong in siting the university in Daura?”
