Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said he wouldn’t have occupied the country’s number two position but for constraint of circumstance.
“I was a child of circumstance,” Shettima said in his words in reference to why he was then picked as Vice-Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress despite being a Muslim like the party’s Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The VP alluded to the political exigencies at a dinner with lawmakers across party lines in Abuja on Saturday night in defence of the National Working Committee of the APC, and Tinubu’s anointment of Senator Godswill Akpabio, a Christian, as their candidate for Senate President.
In the former Borno governor and outgone Senator’s entreaties to the lawmakers not to mutiny against the President’s choices for the National Assembly leadership, he also said, “Number one, two, three, four, and five all from the same faith for God’s sake, we can’t do that. I am ready to kneel and beg my colleagues in the Senate for the sake of the nation. This is for the survival of this nation. I am even going to talk to a senator tonight just for the sake of this nation.”
