The Police has discovered an illegal firearms fabrication workshop in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State and arrested the operators.
The development was made known by a statement the Police Public Relations Officer in the state command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim released where it was said that the gun factory was located at Tasha Adua along Danchuwa Road in Potiskum.
According to the police account the raid on the premises happened on Monday with seven gunmakers arrested during the operation.
“The Yobe State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its sustained efforts to combat crime and criminality across the state.
“The operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the activities of some blacksmiths engaged in the illegal fabrication of firearms,” Abdulkarim wrote.
He stated that while the suspects were arrested several exhibits were recovered from the scene.
Providing details of the recovered items, the statement has it that among the firearms were two fabricated pistols, 24 muzzle pipes, nine gun butts, four unserviceable Dane guns, a filing machine and a cutlass.
He proceeded to say that the suspects were in custody and undergoing investigation to identify possible collaborators, buyers and the intended use of the weapons.
