Senator Sumaila Kawu, representing Kano South senatorial district has declared that he is paid over N21m monthly as a total take-home package.

Kawu’s declaration contradicted the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC’s claim about 24 hours ago that each of the 109 senators in the upper chamber receives a total of N1.06m in salary and allowances per month.

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo sparked the controversy when he remarked that National Assembly members fixed humongous salary for themselves which the Red and the Green Chambers denied.

Senator Kawu on Wednesday jumped aboard via an interview he granted British Broadcasting Hausa Service with which he faulted RMAFC’s claim and said for him, his take-home pay is N21m monthly.
