The chairman of the All Progressive Congress in Logara/Umuohiagu Ward of Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, Ifeanyi Ozoemena, has been killed in cold blood.
Ozoemena was murdered on Tuesday night at around 9.00pm in front of his residence in the presence of his wife.
Apparently a politically motivated murder, two hours before his killing the deceased was said to have hosted APC members in his ward ahead of Saturday’s election.
Later on, the late father-of-three was having dinner with his family when a young male neighbour reportedly came into their residence to tell him that some persons wanted his audience outside. His unwanted guests dressed up as military men.
“My husband went out to see the person and after staying for some time I went out to know who came to see him only to notice that one of the visitors was dragging him on the trousers. I tried to question why he was being held that way, one of the visitors brought out gun and shot him on his side through his ribs.
“Then they dragged him outside the compound and gave him the final gunshot on the forehead and belly and he died instantly. The killers zoomed off. I shouted but no one came to his rescue rather the neighbours fled into hiding on hearing the gunshots,” his widow narrated.
Meanwhile, the police on Thursday said Ozoemena’s killers are fake military men.
“Four fake military men were responsible for the killing of an APC ward chairman in Imo State two days ago. They operated in a red SUV.
“We have taken appropriate measures to make sure nobody toys with the sanity of the Saturday elections. Those who murdered the APC chairman will not escape justice,” the Deputy Inspector General of police in charge of the 2019 General Elections in the South East zone, Michael Ogbizi, told newsmen.
