Former Rivers State governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed displeasure at discontent in some quarters following reported plot to impeach his predecessor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Several individuals and groups of Ijaw extraction have threatened fire and brimstone if Fubara, who is from the ethnic group is impeached by the State House of Assembly.

Speaking during a media live chat on Wednesday, Wike played down on the threat, saying impeaching Fubara is not a crime.

“Politics is not play. If he has done something to be impeached, let them impeach him. It’s not a criminal offence,” the Federal Capital Territory minister declared.

“I cannot believe that in this country, we are now at the point where Nigerians are talking about where three members of the House will sit and make a law, and they are talking about going to the Supreme Court. Do we need to go to work,” he equally stated.

Fubara has been at the receiving end of a Supreme Court ruling, which affirmed Martin Amaewhule, the leader of the 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike as Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

Since the apex court’s decision, the threat to impeach governor by the House has heightened.
