Kogi Gov., Yahaya Bello

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to jail two Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), fedayo Adedipe and Abdulwahab Muhammed for contempt.

Adedipe and Muhammed are lawyers to ex-Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, who is facing prosecution at the hands of the EFCC over allegation of laundering N80.2 billion during his time in the saddle of the Northcentral state.

Yahaya has been evading arrest and refusing to appear in court but recently asked that the case be moved to Kogi from Abuja.

His lawyers’ failure to make good their promise to produce him in court for arraignment on Thursday prompted the anti-graft agency to urge Justice Emeka Nwite to sentence both to jail on contempt grounds.

Ruling on the application for the defence counsels’ sentence was adjourned till July 17 by the judge.
