Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan said it would make a whole lot of sense to empower incumbent President to withdraw national honours from persons found wanting character wise.
Jonathan gave this advice in Abakaliki, during the maiden Ebonyi State Honors Award where he was conferred with Grand Commander, Ebonyi Hall of Fame (GCEHF).
The ex-President said the adoption of the idea became necessary in view of the prevailing situation in which honours are being given to persons undeserved of it.
According to him, “Talking about awards, I want to say, probably, when we are making laws, at the federal level, there should be an amendment empowering the president or the governors to strike off such honours.”
