The politcal crisis rocking Kano bordering on the controversy culminating in the dispute over Certified true copy of the judgement of the Appeal Court with regard governorship election may lead to the attack of the Yoruba Community in the state.
The state has been bedevilled by crisis occasioned by the removal of Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, as governor.
At first, the tribunal overturned Independent Electoral Commission’s declaration of Yusuf as winner and declared Dr Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress as the winner.
In turn, tension rose on account of the Appeal Court’s decision’s Certified true copy with NNPP claiming the leaked original copy was in favour of the incumbent, contradictory to APC’s position.
It has all culminated in both parties announcing different plans to take to the street on Saturday in protest and counter-protest.
The Yoruba Community in the state under the umbrella, Concerned Yoruba Community addressed a press conference on Thursday in Kano where the Secretary General of the group, Taofeek Olaosebikan made it known that lives of people of the South-West extraction are at risk.
Olaosebikan claimed some aggrieved persons believed President Bola Tinubu influenced the courts’ decisions in favour of the APC and may take it out on his tribespeople in the state.
His word, “We are using this platform to call on our leading Obas and leaders to come to our assistance by engaging President Bola Tinubu on the political situation in Kano.
“The average man already believes that the judiciary has been interfered with. We are calling on our fathers, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, to intervene without further delay.
“We are also calling on Oba of Lagos, Alake of Agba, Awujare of Ijebuland, Olubadan of Ibadan and other and other Yoruba leading lights to come to our aid as we won’t find it easy if the situation degenerates further as we actually expect it would.
“The people here will believe that they were cheated by a Yoruba President. That’s the word going around now. A stitch in time, they say saves nine.”
