A political appointment in Kano State has drawn attention after Ahmad Aruwa, Special Adviser to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Publicity, appointed his son, Aliyu Ahmed, as Chief of Staff.
Aliyu is among five people whose appointments were announced on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in a move that has placed the governor’s aide’s family connection to one of the appointees in the spotlight.
Other appointees are Habibu Liman, named Private Secretary; Adamu Mai Salati, Protocol Officer; Isa Ahmed Don, Director-General of Media and Communication; and Musa Muhammad Daurawa, Personal Assistant.
Speaking after receiving his appointment letter, Aruwa pledged loyalty to Governor Yusuf and promised to justify the confidence reposed in him through dedication and commitment to duty.
“Let me categorically make it clear that my leader is Abba, my political boss is Abba, and my political party is Abba,” he said.
Aruwa also vowed to work tirelessly to support the governor and contribute to his success at all levels.
He commended members of his media team for their support and dedication, expressing optimism that they would continue working together to publicise the state government’s policies, programmes and achievements.
The appointment of Aruwa’s son as Chief of Staff may, however, raise questions about family connections in public appointments, although no evidence of wrongdoing has been established from the details available.
