The Oniwo of Afin in Kwara State, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, has regained his freedom after his family paid an additional N12 million in ransom.
Equally at the abductors’ behest the family also handed over two power banks to them.
Oba Olanipekun was abducted a month ago alongside his son, Olaolu, who was released two weeks back after an initial N20m ransom was paid to the abductors.
It has emerged that the monarch got his freedom after another N12m and two power banks were given to the kidnappers in ransom.
“It is true the monarch was released on Wednesday night after we paid N12 million and two power banks in addition to the earlier N20 million paid before.
“They dropped him at a local herders’ settlement around Oreke in Ifelodun Local Government Area. From there, he was taken to the military base in Oreke, where they contacted us,” Punchng quoted an unnamed family member of the freed hostage as saying.
The report said that the traditional ruler is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital after suffering physical and psychological trauma during his captivity.
“He is in high spirits now. The family and the entire Afin community are grateful to everyone who ensured his safe release,” the publication cited the same source.
