The suspect and his victim

ASP Drambi Vandi, the trigger-happy cop, who murdered lawyer Omobolanle Raheem has laid the blame of his horrendous action at the doorstep of accidental discharge.

Vandi, who is due to retire from service in 2024, and for promotion to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, in around two months’ time, shot at the mother-of-one in the presence of her husband, only child, sister, nephew, and niece in Ajah area of Lagos State on Christmas day.

The family were returning from an eatery in a car, with Mr Raheem behind the wheels when they encountered a team of policemen having a roadblock at Ajah Under-bridge that told them (the family) to pull over, but in the process Vandi shot at the car, killing the female lawyer who is said to be pregnant with twins.

The killer cop is in detention, and during interrogation, said his action proceeded from accidental discharge, as per Punchng citing a police source at Ajiwe Police Station where Vandi is attached to.

The publication quoted the unnamed source as saying, “He was being interrogated by the DPO and some senior police officers yesterday morning (Monday). He said he had cocked his gun to scare someone earlier and forgot to return it to safe. By the time the victim arrived at the checkpoint, he attempted to repeat the same act, but mistakenly pulled the trigger.”
