A lady, Nmesoma Nwoye, and her boyfriend, Chibuike Ogbu, have been arrested in Anambra State over fake kidnap in which they collected N3m in ransom from Nmesoma’s family members.
Twenty-four years old Ogbu and 23-years old Nmesoma had conspired to stage her kidnap and reached out to her relatives to pay N15m in ransom.
In the ensuing negotiation N3m which all parties agreed to was paid into the victim’s account as directed.
This was according to a statement the spokesman for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga released on Saturday.
Ikenga said investigations launched by the police into the alleged abduction proved it false leading to apprehension of the lovers.
“The suspects identified as Nmesoma Josephine Nwoye, female, aged 23 years, and Chibuike Ogbu, male, aged 24 years, were arrested after intelligence-led operations uncovered that the supposed victim conspired with Chibuike (her boyfriend) to stage her own abduction.
“The operatives also recovered the sum of N1,200,000, being part of the ransom earlier paid by the girl’s family members.
“Further information reveals that the suspects demanded N15m ransom, and after negotiation, N3m was transferred into the victim’s account,” the statement read in part.
