The Lagos State Government has warned residents particularly celebrities and influencers against giving money to touts.
A widespread practice, residents usually come under persistent financial demands from thugs.
The state government through its Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, called for a stop of the age-long phenomenon, urging residents to desist from the gesture.
Wahab made this call on a Tuesday via his X handle.
He wrote: “Celebrities, influencers, and even well-meaning Lagosians must stop giving money to these miscreants.
“Each time you hand them cash, you are not solving their problem; you are encouraging them to stay on the streets, emboldening them to multiply, and reinforcing a cycle of lawlessness.”
