The detention of Metro news publisher, Femi Davies, has excited reaction from his lawyer, Ikechukwu Chunuwe.

Davies has been in detention of the Department of State Services in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital since Tuesday after honouring the invitation of the secret police.

Chunuwe in a letter dated August 9, 2023 to the DSS, accused the latter of mistreating his client, infringing on his right, and denying him(Chunuwe) access to the publisher.

It reads in part, “I was, however, denied access to see our client. Following this development, I put several calls across to the said Micheal with phone number 0903193**** without any response. The said Micheal who returned the call hours later confirmed his name to be Michael but said he does not know of any Femi Davies.

“We have been made to understand that from the way our client spoke, he was/is distressed.

“The family members of our client in the circumstances have now come to the conclusion and have every reason to so do, that the act of your office against our client is and remains unconstitutional.

“Your continued detention of our client since the 7th of August, 2023 is illegal and against the clear provisions of our law. Our client has been unconstitutionally detained in your office and was never told the reason for the invitation and his detention.”
