The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has weighed in on the controversy generated by the stealing of the Senate’s mace on April 18, 2018 during a plenary.

Obasa commented on the issue while giving the 8th Lagos House of Assembly’s score card to newsmen and civil society organisations during a parley of the House with members of both groups, the third one in the series.

“It is necessary to give our scorecard and set the record straight. First to reckon with is the business of legislation… As legislature we have critical roles to play in promoting good governance. We have passed nine bills and made 45 resolutions. One of the resolutions is the preservation of building of historical relevance,” the Speaker narrated in the speech he delivered at the occasion.

Speaking, he condemned the shunning of senate’s invitation by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idri and the stealing of the red chamber’s mace saying “legislative arm was being dishonoured across the country.”
