A 36-year-old man, Michael Odogwu, was yesterday arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a chicken valued at N2, 500.
The accused is facing a two-count charge of stealing and threat to life.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Ighodalo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 21, at about 6.00 a.m., at Eko Akete, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
He said that the accused stole the chicken belong to Mr Surajudeen Adeshina, and threatened his life and that of his wife when they confronted him over the disappearance of the poultry.
Ighodalo said that the offences contravened Sections 56 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr M.L. Owolabi, granted the accused N100, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till Oct. 27 for substantive trial. (NAN)
