The timely intervention of a police patrol team saved the life a 37 year man in Delta State who ate rat poison after his fiancée dumped him a week to their wedding.
Emeka Odigwu, an Economics graduate of the Delta State University, Abraka ate rat poison ostensibly to commit suicide at a popular fast food in Warri metropolis when it dawned upon him that his wedding plan with his lover of three years(name withheld) would not go as planned.
It was said that unknown to him, his supposed fiancée was double-dating and had preference for her other long-standing lover who is abroad and recently proposed marriage to her.
According to Delta State Police Command PRO, Celestine Kalu, Emeka was rescued around Jappa Junction by Police Patrol team on routine duty, adding that he was found almost lifeless on the ground(file image) gasping for breath around 10:30pm on Saturday night.
DSP Kalu disclosed that the Policemen recovered a letter from him in which he wrote, “I fell heartbroken and rejected by someone, whom I loved and had given my heart to over the years in the midst of a get together with my friends, I’d rather die and return to my mother’s earth”.
Speaking further, the Police image maker said that the victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Warri where the doctors on duty confirmed he took rat poison, which was also found in his pocket.
