One Ayomide Adewale is standing trial for allegedly killing his pregnant girlfriend, Hannah Eniku.
On account of the said dastardly act, on Tuesday, the 32-year-old was arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Yaba area of Lagos State.
By the account of the prosecutor, Haruna Magaji, the accused and late Hannah struck up a romantic relationship in June 2020 after meeting on Facebook and by November of the same year, he had impregnated her.
Magistrate O.Y. Adefope also heard that the accused was intensely indisposed to Hannah giving birth and on that basis gave her a concoction to drink when she visited him at his residence at Gospel Street, Mashalashi, Alagbado on November 1.
What followed, according to Magaji was that the deceased developed severe stomach pain on getting home prompting her mother to rush her to Ikorodu General Hospital where she underwent surgery, and later died.
The prosecutor’s prayer for the defendant’s remand pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution got Adefope’s approbation.
The magistrate ordered Adewale’s remand and adjourned the case till May 9, 2023, for trial.
