One Nura Musbahu and his wife-to-be, Fatima Lawal, have been remanded for stealing kayan lefe (wedding gift), belonging to his sister, Aisha.
The remand order was handed down by a Kano State Shari’a Court.
Kefe lefe is a Hausa tradition in which expensive items bought by groom are presented to bride’s family by his own relatives.
Aisha took the theiving lovers before the court at Rijiyar Lemo in Fagge LGA on grounds of stealing and accepting stolen items.
At the proceedings, Musbahu pleaded guilty, while his fiancée admitted that only two items were given to her, which she presented to the court.
Khadi Danbaba ordered their remand at a correctional centre until June 5, 2024 and directed that their parents appeared before the court.
