One Jason Okhiria has shot his wife, Tina, during an argument between both in Ekae Community in the new Etete axis, GRA, Benin, the Edo State capital.
The incident happened on June 3, with report that it arose from Mrs Okhiria’s lateness in getting Mr Okhiria his food.
And according to the State Police spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, it was brought to the notice of the security agency by the community elders and Mr Okhiria’s nine-year old son, Joanki, who witnessed the violent act.
Nwabuzor said, Mr Okhiria and his wife were having altercation and in the course, the suspect went upstairs to fetch his double barrel gun and on return, shot at her, with the bullet hitting her left hand.
The affected hand, the PPRO said, has been amputated in the hospital she was rushed to while the trigger-happy spouse is in police custody ahead of facing prosecution.
The state first lady, Betsy Obaseki paid a visit to the victim in the hospital, and took to her Facebook wall to post pictures of the occasion.
In the post, she wrote, “My visit to the Specialist Hospital in Benin City to see Mrs Tina Okhiria who was allegedly shot by her husband Jason because she delayed in preparing his meal leading to the amputation of her left arm.
“I asked Mrs. Okhiria’s mother if she was aware of the husband’s abusive tendencies before the incident and advised other married couples to explore the provisions offered by the State Ministry of Social Development and Gender issues in cases of abuse, rather than suffering in silence.
“I will ensure that the husband, Mr Jason will face the full weight of the law for his actions.
“And I assure you Mrs. Okhiria that you will receive assistance in obtaining a prosthetic arm to alleviate the loss she has suffered.”
