Raphael Effiong, the suitor who stabbed to death his girlfriend, Gift Sunday(both pictured) because she turned down his marriage proposal was yesterday arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate Court in Lagos.
About two weeks back, 28-year-old Effiong, a native of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, killed 26-year-old Gift in a hotel at Ketu after she rejected his marriage proposal.
Their relationship started a year ago, and in Effiong’s calculation, it was marriage bound, and so he put his cards on the table after spending some ‘fortune’ to keep the relationship going.
Gift’s continued refusal to accept his marriage proposal made him unleashed his fury on her as he reached for a scissor he brought to the hotel, and stabbed her to death with it.
Effiong was arrested and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba.
Charged with murder, Effiong’s matter came up yesterday.
The presiding magistrate, Justice F.J. Adefioye, ordered him to be remanded in prison custody at Ikoyi, Lagos, while the prosecutor, Mrs. Iyobosa Onaiwu was directed to duplicate the case file and forward them to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for advice on the case.
