The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), has urged parents to demand drug free certificates from persons who want to marry their children.
Marwa gave this advice on Friday in Ogbomosho, Oyo State at the inauguration of a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts built by a group known as Ogbomoso First Initiative.
The NDLEA boss lamented the high rate of drug abuse among the country’s youths adding that the vile act was more rampant in states in South-west and South-south.
He said in turning the tide, parents needed to demand from anyone who want to marry their children drug free certificate in order to ascertain whether they are into it or not.
The former Lagos Military Administrator laid the prevalence of crimes at the doorstep of drug abuse, saying, “Banditry, insurgency, kidnapping and other criminal activities all have their root in the use of hard substances. Until we face the menace squarely, the problem of insecurity will continue to remain with us.”
