Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Bala Ibn Na’alla on Wednesday gave his colleagues a firsthand information on the health condition of Senator Dino Melaye, who is in the Emergency Unit of the Trauma Center of the National Hospital, Abuja, after sustaining injuries when he jumped off from police vehicle conveying him to Lokoja where he is under investigation for allegedly procuring ammunition for criminals.
Senator Na’alla was in the delegate that was earlier sent to the hospital by the Senate to ascertain Melaye’s state of health.
In his report, the Senator representing Kebbi South raised concern about the Kogi West senator’s health saying he was asthmatic and had not eaten since his arrest. He claimed that police are afraid to feed him while option of his cooks making his food has not materialised.
His word, ” “We went to the National Hospital this morning (yesterday), we confirmed that he (Melaye) was brought in about 11pm. We spoke to the doctor who is the trauma surgeon in charge of the unit and the Chief Medical Director, (CMD) himself and the assurance we have is that they are doing whatever is humanly possible to stabilise him.
‘’We tried to see him but the police left instruction that only Senator Abu Ibrahim and Sen. Baba Kaka Garbai are allowed to see him.
“Something is, however, worrisome and it is his feeding. Police are afraid of feeding him and the hospital is having reservations.
‘’The CMD gave an instruction that two of Melaye’s cooks will prepare the food but that they must taste the food. Even that has not been successful.
“We also heard there was insistence to remove him from the National Hospital and I think the hospital insisted that there must be an undertaking and nobody is willing to sign.”
