Report has emerged that the current resurgence in the activities of insurgents in the Northeast has to do with next year’s presidential elections.

The Guardian quoting the Defense Headquarters (DHQ) said there might be a link between both.
The paper said it gathered from the Director, Defense Information, Brig-Gen. John Agim, that some politicians may want to use the insecurity in the northeast as a campaign rallying point, prior to the elections.
Quoting Agim, the report revealed that the military could not say outright that the insurgence was politically motivated but has been studying the situation, so as to significantly contain any threat that might arise before the general elections.
It said that the Defense spokesperson accused some journalists of helping to hype the propaganda of the insurgents, saying it appears the terrorists alerted some journalists before carrying out any attack in the region.
