The purported suspension of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has elicited his response.

Onyeama is one of the chieftains suspended by the leadership of Enugu State chapter of the All Progressive Congress.

Others slammed with the controversial punishment for alleged wrong doing against the party are: Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, former governor Sullivan Chime, former Speaker of state House of Assembly, Eugene Odo; an aide to the Minister, Mr Flavour Eze and two others.

On Onyeama’s part, report spreading through the net said his suspension was the consequence for declining to undertake a hatchet assignment against the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

This incident, the minister said, by a statement the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Francisca Omayuli issued on Saturday, only happened in the peddlers’ imagination.

“The attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been drawn to a story circulating on social media that the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Geoffrey Onyeama, has been suspended by his party, the All Progressives Congress because as alleged, ‘he was sent to the United States to blackmail Peter Obi, and he declined the request’.

“The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs states that there is no iota of truth to the mischievous allegations.

“The general public is, therefore, called upon to disregard the story,” Omayuli remarked.
