One Mrs Damilola Adeyeri and her son, Alaba, have been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for defrauding an American of the sum of $82,570.
The judgement was handed down to Alaba and her mother by Justice C. J. Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos, on Tuesday.
The duo were found guilty of four counts bordering on “fraudulent trick business and email compromise”.
The charges were brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission with the convicts admitting to the crime.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Aneke said following their admission of guilt and avoidance of wasting the time of the court, he would temper justice with mercy, and give them lesser punishment.
He concluded by sentencing them to three years’ imprisonment on each of the four counts.
The judge said: “Consequently, I hereby sentence each of the convicts to three years on counts one, two, three and four. The sentences are to run concurrently.”
