Sheik Ab¬dulaziz Daud, popularly known as Abdul Inyass, has been sentenced to death by hanging by a Kano Upper Sharia Court for blas¬pheming Prophet Muhammad.

Inyass who belongs to the Tijaniyya Islamic sect had in May during the posthumous birthday celebration of Prophet Muhammad(Maolud) said leader of the sect, Senegalese born late Sheik Ibrahim Niasse, was holier than the prophet.

His comment threw the ancient city of Kano that is populated by the Qadiriyya, another Islamic sect into commotion.

Consequently, he fled to Abuja but nine of his followers were arrested, charged with blasphemy offences and five of them were sentenced to death last year by a Sharia Court while others were acquitted.

In one of their court appearance, the court was attacked by irate mob.
Inyass’ prosecution over the last five months following his arrest had been wrapped in secrecy.

Like his five followers who were sentenced to death, reports have it that Inyass has appealed the judgment in Sharia Court of Appeal.
