Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq during Muhammadu Buhari’s time as President has surrendered herself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Umar-Farouq’s name featured in the ongoing investigation of the N37.1bn fraud allegedly perpetrated in the National Social Investment Programme, NSIPA, during her time as Minister.
NSIPA Chief Executive Officer, Halima Shehu, has been suspended over the matter and for two days she was guest of the EFCC.
One James Okwete, a contractor said to partake in the financial shenanigans has also been in and out of the anti-graft agency’s detention with the ex-minister pleading for time when invited.
Umar-Farouk on Monday morning took to microblogging platform, X, to say that she has honoured the invitation on her own accord.
“I have, at my behest, arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to honour the invitation by the anti-graft agency to offer clarifications in respect of some issues that the commission is investigating,” she wrote.
