Manager arraigned Over alleged N15.6m fraud

A manager with Danman Plastics and Industries Limited, Mr. Nathaniel Adekanbi, has been arraigned before a Lagos Federal High Court, on charges of obtaining goods by false pretence and fraud of N15, 660, 000.

He was arraigned on the allegations before the court presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, by the men of the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) Ikoyi-Lagos.

Arraigning the defendant, the prosecutor, Justin Enang, told the court that the manager, the company and Rakeshi Danman (now at large) committed the offences in sometimes in December, 2019.

To perpetrate the alleged act, Enang said the defendant and other a large, fraudulently obtained 36 tonnes of PVC Powder, value N15. 660 Million, from a company, Crystal Vale Industries Limited.

The offences according to the prosecutor are Contrary to Sections 8 (a) and 1(2) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Offence Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Law.

The manager denied the allegations and he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

With his not guilty plea, the prosecutor asked the court for a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS), till the end of the trial.

But his lawyer, Toyin Adegboye, asked the court for a short date to enable him file his client’s bail application.

Justice Lifu, while ordered that the defendant be remanded in the NCoS’ custody, adjourned the matter till February 22, for hearing of the defendant’s bail application.
