A photojournalist, Aiyepeku Ayo, has been killed by his neighbour, Adebayo Pelumi, with whom he lived together at a compound in GRA Lokoja, the Kogi state capital.

The incident happened on Tuesday night, with reports saying Ayo was doing video editing in his apartment when his older neighbour called him to help him on his small farm in the compound.

The young man in blissful ignorance of the hidden agenda Pelumi had in mind joined him on the farm, but it turned out that it was a ploy to kill him and dismember his body which the killer neighbour carried out.

The accounts expatiated further that Pelumi went on to store the remains in a freezer, and on discovering that someone was in an apartment in the compound locked the fellow inside the room and fled in a car where he placed the freezer.

“His behaviours raised the suspicion of the person in the room and he raised the alarm, which attracted the vigilantes to the scene.

“The evidence in the compound points to the conclusion that he killed the young photojournalist for money ritual,” sources explained.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) on Wednesday confirmed the incident.

“The matter was reported to the Divisional Police Officer, A Division on the killing of Ayo which is culpable homicide. After they lodged the complaint, the Police swung into action by going to the scene. Investigation has commenced.

“The Commissioner of Police CP Miller Dantawaye has given the DPO a directive to transfer the matter to State CID because they are the one handling matters concerning homicide for discrete investigation. Efforts is ongoing to get the suspect who is currently at large. He will be apprehended and prosecuted accordingly,” he stated.
