The rumour that Netflix is on its way out of Nigeria has excited reaction from the company.

The rumour stemmed from comments made by prominent Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan during the 2024 Zuma International Film Festival.

Dismissing the claims, the streaming service company instead reiterated its commitment to investing in the country’s local film industry.

Afolayan had said that Netflix recently cancelled several projects by unnamed filmmakers, sparking rumour that the streaming giant had plans to discontinue business in Nigeria.

“When we signed the three-film deal with Netflix three years ago, it was a moment of great excitement,” Afolayan stated.
