Kano governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has told President Muhammadu Buhari to postpone his visit to the State.
Buhari was scheduled to visit Kano between 30 and 31 January to commission some projects built by the Ganduje administration.
But the governor has written the President to avoid the state in the meantime, citing possible violence that may arise during his visit, occasioned by the new naira notes crisis.
A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar stated this.
Anwar said the state government through correspondence, told Buhari to postpone his visit on the premise that the new naira notes policy is hurting Kano residents arising from difficulties in obtaining it, as the January 31 deadline draws near.
On that note, the state feared that angry residents may vent their feelings during the President’s visit and sought for postponement.
“As we are waiting for this important visit, we found ourselves in this situation, which puts citizens into untold hardship. For security purposes, we wrote to the Presidency that President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Kano be postponed.
“We got an acknowledgement copy of the letter. People are really suffering because of this policy,” Anwar’s remark read.
