Defence chiefs of Economic Community of West African States excluding those under military rule and Cape Verde, said they are battle ready to storm Niger Republic to restore democracy.
The Presidential Guards had overthrown President Mohamed Bazoum on July 26.
Consequently ECOWAS issued a one-week ultimatum to the military to restore the president or risk sanctions, and sequel; ordered the constitution of a standby force.
On Thursday at the meeting of Defence chiefs of obliging ECOWAS in Ghana, the participants universally
said the troop is ready to root out the Nigerien junta if diplomacy fails.
This is according to Reuters, quoting ECOWAS commissioner, Abdel-Fatau Musah as saying, “Let no one be in doubt if everything else fails, the valiant forces of West Africa…are ready to answer to the call of duty.
“By all means available, constitutional order will be restored in the country,” Musah told assembled defence chiefs from member countries, listing past ECOWAS deployments in The Gambia, and Liberia as examples of readiness.”
