The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) said heavy rain clouds are gathering and the heaven would seriously open in the next three days across 29 states and Federal Capital Territory.
NiMet issued the alert in its bulletin in a report titled, Heavy Rainfall Forecast Bulletin’.
In it, the agency said thunderstorms and strong winds will accompany the undesirable element that will be experienced in the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) and 29 states in the next three days.
The states listed include, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Edo, Rivers Cross River, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom. Kogi, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kogi, Taraba and Gombe.
To face the hardest of the 3-day rain from which flash floods, poor visibility and damage to weak structures would arise, according to NiMet, are states in the North and the FCT.
It, therefore, advised people “to avoid flood waters and standing or parking cars under trees. Emergency agencies, like the National Emergency Management Agencies (NEMA), to be prepared.
The report that Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam contributes heavily to flooding in Nigeria was however disclaimed by the agency.
