The Lagos State Government has ordered all public and private schools to make LASRRA registration a compulsory requirement for enrolling learners from the 2026/2027 academic session.
Under the new directive, schools must obtain and record the valid Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) registration number of every learner as part of the admission process.
The requirement takes effect from Monday, September 14, 2026.
The directive was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Adepeju Adeyemi.
According to the statement, the policy was approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, as part of efforts to build a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners across Lagos.
The government said the database would help improve school record-keeping, identify and verify learners, track pupils and students, and provide reliable data for education planning and decision-making.
Schools have consequently been directed to include each learner’s LASRRA number in admission and other school records, while also sensitising parents and guardians about the new requirement.
Parents whose children are yet to register with LASRRA have been advised to complete the process before the new academic session gets underway.
The Director-General of the OEQA, Dr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, said the agency would work with LASRRA and other relevant bodies to develop arrangements for generating and assigning unique PINs to learners.
He added that registration, verification and sensitisation support would be provided to schools, parents, guardians and learners.
And there is a warning for schools: compliance will be monitored.
The OEQA said adherence to the directive would form part of its routine monitoring and quality-assurance activities in public and private schools.
The government, however, stressed that learners’ personal information must be handled securely and confidentially in line with applicable data-protection requirements.
LASRRA REGISTRATION STILL FREE
The development comes days after LASRRA warned its registration agents against turning the exercise into a money-making venture.
The agency had insisted that LASRRA registration is completely free, warning residents to report any agent who demands payment.
LASRRA General Manager, Bilikis Adebiyi-Abiola, urged residents not to pay anyone for the registration.
With the new school directive kicking in on September 14, parents who have not registered their children may now have little time to get their LASRRA details sorted.
