The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has accused Northern elite of hypocrisy claiming they don’t believe in Islam.

In an interview with Punch, Kukah blamed the debilitating poverty, and insurgency in the north on elite from the region adding that they used Islam to manipulate the ordinary northerners.
“Boko Haram exploited the fact that this elite proclaimed Sharia in 1999 and 2000, while in reality, they did not believe in the religion itself. So, Boko Haram simply has asked them to step aside,” he told the paper.
