A group, Youth Earnestly Ask for Tinubu’s Re-election, has called for the arrest of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai over his disclosure that he’s involved in alleged tapping of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu ‘s phone conversation.
“The NSA’s call was tapped. They do that to our calls too, and we heard him saying they should arrest me,” El-Rufai said in an interview he granted Arise TV in which he accused the NSA of being behind the failed attempt to arrest him at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport on Thursday.
Reacting to the former Kaduna governor’s confession, the youth group described the act as illegal and a grave threat to national security, transcending partisan divides.
“The admission of wiretapping Nigeria’s top security official, the NSA—who oversees critical intelligence on terrorism, insurgency, and national threats—represents a brazen breach that could compromise classified operations and endanger lives.
“The NSA occupies a sensitive position responsible for safeguarding the country’s security interests, regardless of perceived biases or political affiliations. Tapping his calls and admitting it publicly cannot be condoned,” the group’s National Coordinator, Tunde Olarinoye wrote in a statement made available to newsmen.
Olarinoye called for El-Rufai’s arrest and that of others who were party to the covet phone interception.
“If Nigeria is worth its salt, this must not be swept under the carpet. All those involved in it must face the full wrath of the law,” he added.
